OVERCOMING PTSD

Once again, chaos became my normal.
War Zone
Krista Casey came to the Warriors Center for Women by the way of the Iraq war. She joined the US Army to be a military policewoman. She graduated top of her class and was sent to Baquba, Iraq.
All of a sudden she was in a war zone. On March 7th, 2007, her company lost their first killed in action. Specialist Kaiser was shot by a sniper. Then on November, 30th, 2007, Krista’s world fell apart.
That was the day that her truck was hit by an explosive projectile that flipped her truck into a canal. She was badly hurt, as was her gunner Sgt. Emery who was killed in action. She later received a Purple Heart, but once back home she struggled with severe PTSD.
My Purple Heart, My Broken Heart
The PTSD was paralyzing. The VA began giving her pain pills and she became addicted while trying to numb herself. Sometime after, that she began taking meth which took her to even darker places. She was later charged with Felony Child Abuse for leaving her child alone while she was high and was sent to jail. She was offered rehab, and from there was led to the Warriors Center for Women.
A Life Transformed
Krista began receiving the comfort and push she needed to fight again. Countless therapists and counselors tried to help her for years with no success. Krista states that her struggles began falling off as she began to have faith again and find healing.
Krista graduated from the Warriors Center on April 8th, 2019. She returned home to appear before the court and all charges were dropped. Court personnel stated that they had never seen such a transformation in someone before their court. Krista has been restored to her two year old son and is now working to re-enter college to finish her degree.
