What Does a Mentor Do?
Walking Alongside Someone Who Is Rebuilding
Mentors walk alongside our residents during one of the most important seasons of their lives.
Through consistent presence, encouragement, and accountability, mentors help reinforce the transformation taking place inside the program. They build real relationships, speak truth when it is needed, and model what a stable, Christ-centered life looks like.
At Warriors Center, mentoring is one of the ways members of the Warrior Corps serve. It is a designation that is earned and maintained, not a casual or honorary title.
How to Become a Mentor
Trust Is Built Over Time
The more access a volunteer has to residents, the more accountability comes with it. That is why mentoring is a next step, not an entry point.
Serve as a General Volunteer
Serve in staff-led activities for at least 60 days within a 12-month period and get to know the staff and rhythm of the center.
Join the Warrior Corps
Complete an application, a staff reference, a background check, an interview, and monthly onboarding training. The center’s Executive Director gives final approval.
Mentor Residents
Once approved and issued a badge, Warrior Corps members mentor, share fellowship, and serve several times a month during approved hours.
Mentoring Within Boundaries
Supporting the Program, Never Apart From It
Mentors serve under the authority of each center’s Executive Director and staff, who keep final authority over every decision about residents.
Clear boundaries protect residents in a vulnerable season of life, and they protect mentors too. Every Warrior Corps member is trained in them, including real-life scenarios like a resident asking for money, a ride, or a private meeting.
Mentors Always
- Check in and out at every visit
- Keep all resident information confidential
- Decline to give or accept money or significant gifts
- Get written approval before any ride, off-site visit, or one-on-one meeting
- Never offer residents jobs, housing, or business deals while they are in the program
- Report any concern to staff right away

Before You Apply
To be considered for the Warrior Corps, you should:
- Have served at least 60 days as a General Volunteer in the past 12 months
- Have a staff member who can serve as a reference
- Be willing to complete a background check, interview, and training
- Be at least 18 years old
